Which Esports Are Suitable For Children?

Which Esports Are Suitable For Children

Although they may not seem difficult, most esports are actually very difficult games that require years to learn. Because of this, you want to direct children toward easier games at first and only later introduce them to the difficult ones.

Fighting Games

These types of esports are not very educational but they’re fun and easy to learn. Examples include Tekken, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. You don’t need a spectacular PC to play them and you can figure out very quickly what the rules are and how everything works.

Sports Games

This is another category of video games that are easy to learn, partly because a child usually knows the rules before starting to play them. If he enjoys watching rugby, cricket or soccer on TV, he might ask for a chance to play games that simulate these sports.

First-Person Shooters

This is another popular esports category and some of its most famous titles are Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valorant, Fortnite, and Overwatch. In particular the last three of these games are less realistic and have a cartoony atmosphere, which makes them better suited for children.

CS:GO is quite realistic. And although there’s no real link between video games violence and real gun violence, it’s still a good idea to keep your child away from esports that are too realistic until around the age of 14.

Real-Time Strategy Games

RTS games are one of the best types of games that your child can learn how to play. These games are somewhat challenging and require the development of not just a wide variety of cognitive skills, but also of excellent mouse/keyboard dexterity. To be a good StarCraft 2, Age of Empires 2, or Warcraft 3 player, you need to have at least 100 actions per minute.

RTS games are great because they teach you that every decision matters. They show you the importance of having resources, how to put them to good use, how to coordinate your actions, and much more. They’re also a stepping stone to MOBA games, which are the most sophisticated, popular, and beneficial types of esports that your child can play.

MOBA Games

MOBA stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. In this category, we have games likes League of Legends and Dota 2. Both of them are amazing but they’re incredibly complex. Before you venture here, you should play RTS games for at least one hundred hours and RPGs (role-playing games) for another one hundred hours.

RTS games will teach you the basics of strategy and resource allocation. RPGs will teach you all about heroes, items, abilities, monsters, and so on. MOBAs are a mixture of both but they also add elements and mechanics of their own.

Furthermore, they’re team-based games, which increases the complexity tremendously. You practically need to learn around 1000 elements just to be able to understand a game like LoL or Dota 2 as a novice. Mastering these games takes thousands of hours. In most games, when you have 1000 hours of play you’re a master. Here you’re just a newbie at best.
