Official Commonwealth Update – Dota 2

Earlier this month, our E Black squad did battle against Australia for the region’s spot at the Commonwealth Esports Championships. For Dota 2, we put forward two teams, one each in the Open and Women’s category. While both squads narrowly lost to their Australian counterparts, the Australian Esports Association have since informed both us and the Global Esports Federation (GEF) that their Dota 2 Open team will be conceding their place at the Championships

As such, following Australia’s withdrawal from the Dota 2 Open competition, the GEF have decided to award New Zealand the spot. Our Dota 2 Open team will be attending the Commonwealth Esports Championships in Birmingham in early August alongside eFootball representative Joshua “JMKKing” King, who qualified earlier in the year.

Unfortunately, due to conflicting schedules, Position 1 player Ning “Ningy” Yu has withdrawn from the team and will not be attending the Championships. However, NZ Esports has selected Rangsey “Magic” Mou from the Dota 2 Women’s team to replace him and the new-look E Black squad is hard at work preparing for the upcoming competition.

The team is as follows:

Dota 2 – Open

  • Sam “explosiv_fury” Johnson (Captain)
  • Rangsey “Magic” Mou
  • Tom “Tom” Shi
  • Jordan “Zavier” Baker
  • Tobias “Tobz” Sveaas

The team will be travelling to Birmingham in from the 31st of July and will spend the week of the event training with teams from around the world before competing in the Commonwealth Esport Championships on the 6th and 7th of August.
